Custom Boat Sign Re-creation in Saratoga, California
Working from a very fuzzy photograph, sign painter John Espinola re-created two signs from the manufacturers of the Florence M., pictured above. On sheets of 1/2″ MDO, Espinola brushed out the backgrounds by hand, leaving brush marks like those that would have been part of the sign at the time.
He custom-mixed the colors and hand-painted the text. In this photo, the boat, its trailer and the car pulling it and, of course, the signs are on their way to become an exhibit at the Tahoe Maritime Museum.
