Custom School Exterior Award Sign for Del Mar High in San Jose, California
Sign artist John Espinola custom made these letters by cutting them from 3/4″ MDO plywood. He put beveled edges on the letters to give the 23Kt. gold leaf gilding another surface from which to glow. An “engine turned” textured-looking finish that is done by hand also helps catch the light.
Letter outlines are painted in oil enamel. The DM measures 3′ x 4′ and Home of the Dons is 14″ x 8′. The rectangular California Distinguished School emblem is 1/4″ aluminum composite material, cut to shape and painted.
