San Jose Library Dimensional Wall Art Project
Originally hired to paint the “rooftops” above each bookshelf and everything above it as a mural, artist John Espinola looked at the blueprints and proposed dimensional elements instead.
So he cut the rooftops from 1/8″ PVC material and painted them to specs. They range in size from 22-48″ in length and 10-15″ high. The numbers, kites, balloons and glider are cut from 1/4″ PVC and painted to specs.
The numbers are 20″ tall. The kites are 16 & 20″ tall, the balloons are 24 & 32″ tall. The glider is 48″ long and especially notable because of the delicacy of the cutouts in the wheels and around the pilot. These decorations are in the children’s area of the Village Square Branch of the San Jose Library.
